Principal Message

We at Calvin Coolidge are excited to begin the second half of this school year!  Time really does fly when you're having fun. I want to encourage you to carefully review your child's report card on GENESIS.  Those grades reflect your child's performance and progress in school. As we embark on the second semester, remember that what they'll learn builds upon what was learned across the first semester.  Please contact Mrs. Gallo at 908-352-7664 x2400 or if you are experiencing difficulty in accessing the GENESIS parent portal.

Please make note of these suggestions:

  • Be there - be ready!  That is one of our rules.  Have them here on time daily and leave them here all day.
  • Check your child's class announcements online @ under the "Elementary School" link on the homepage.
  • Check your child's "daily home folder" every night!  Your child should have material there for you to help with reinforcement nightly.
  • Look over your child's "Homework" with him/her EVERY EVENING. Show them that it is important to you.
  • Ensure that your child reads 20 minutes every night and ask them to retell what they have read in their own words to ensure comprehension.
  • BE INVOLVED!  The PTA has a meeting on January 9th @ 6:30 PM, make plans to attend.

On Friday December 20, 2013, we had a pizza party for all the students to celebrate the over 3000 hours of reading for the first half of the school year. As we embark on the second portion of the reading challenge I wanted to make you aware of the rules. For the second half of the year the class with the highest monthly reading hours will receive a prize (Pizza Party, Ice-cream, etc.). However, for the class to qualify for the prize each individual student in the class must read a minimum of 300 minutes.

The second marking period Parent-Teacher conferences will take place on the evening of January 30, 2014, from 6-7:30 PM. Your child’s teacher will make arrangements. I encourage you to contact your child’s teacher with any questions that may arise during the year. It is not necessary to wait until the parent conferences to address any academic questions.

On behalf of everyone here at Calvin Coolidge, I want to thank the faculty, staff, students and parents for a successful “can drive”, special KUDOS to the school safety team for organizing it. I would also like to thank our PTA president Ms. Wanda Evans; she is doing a phenomenal job organizing fundraisers for the students. Please support the PTA, fundraiser proceeds are used to pay for the end of year carnival for our students. I am very proud of Calvin Coolidge and the wonderful things we can accomplish when we work together.

Thank you for being such a crucial part of your child's education!

We are a TEAM - Together Everyone Accomplishes More!

Summer Reading

Dear Parents,

Summer Reading assignments are now posted on the district and school websites under the “student” tab. They are also posted on your teacher’s class page. All assignments are due back to school by September 12, 2014.  It is important to have your child read over the summer to enhance reading skills. Sustained summer reading leads to higher graduation rates, positive self-esteem and confidence, not to mention it is just plain fun!

Have a safe and happy summer!
